A sophisticated wine bar with presence.
Wine Shop Lami is a boutique wine shop and standing bar in Nakazakichō, Osaka, and one of two client engagements anchoring my three-month creative residency in Japan. The work began before I arrived — and continued in earnest once I did.
The Shop
Miyuki Shimizu opened Wine Shop Lami in March 2024, near Ogimachi Park, after more than a decade in the wine world — five years at Kitashinchi Wine Bar Marche, seven running her own wine bar "le petit bar a vin Lami," and time spent in department stores and specialty wine retail in between. The name comes from the French "le ami" — friend. Her founding intention was simple and precise: a place that feels like going to a friend's house. Wine bottles up front, a bar space in the back, no pressure, no performance. Just good wine and somewhere to rest.
Instagram Stories
Lami operates on variable hours across the week, with irregular closures for events, travel, and personal days. The existing calendar used a four-color coding system to communicate this — functional but requiring the reader to cross-reference a legend on every visit. The redesigned calendar removes the color dependency entirely, printing hours directly into each cell and addressing the color system's blind spot: Mondays and Sundays had no default state, leaving customers to guess. The result is a calendar that anyone can read in ten seconds without any prior knowledge of the shop's system.
